Post war to Cold war

This Aviation Museum has a unique collection of British aircraft from the "golden age" of British aircraft manufacture. From the end of WWII until the 1970's British aircraft designers produced some of the most innovative and advanced aircraft of the day. From post war to cold war, this museum clearly shows that timeline in aviation terms.

In this collection there are examples from the major manufacturers of this period.

Amongst the list are classic names, Avro, Hawker, Gloster, De Havilland, English Electric, Blackburn, Percival.

In the week commencing the 19th of September saw a momentus event in the museum's history. The long time restoration of the Ex Saudi F53 (53-671) completed it's first engine runs. This is the culmination of more than 16 years of a patient and detailed restoration to ground running status.

Many thanks to our fire team without their presence and patience this may not have been possible. For a larger version of the pictures below click on the selected picture.

Private group (10+) viewings may be booked at any time by appointment.

Please call or contact the museum by email or phone to arrange an appointment.

We are still very interested in anyone who can volunteer to run the museum, especially at the weekends. If you can offer even a few hours we would love to talk to you. Contact details below.

Please note: we try to allow access to the Shackleton as much as we can. However there are occasions when it will be closed during our opening hours. The main reasons for closure are, inclement weather, lack of staff and when engineering work is being carried out and access may present a hazard to visitors. We are sorry for this possible inconvenience but we do try to keep these closed sessions to a bare minimum.
the Shackleton will be closed for winter maintenance from 31st of October until the 14th of April (Easter) 2017 .
